Penang will unveil Asia’s first Transformers street art installation at the Esplanade this July 19, joining an exhibition featuring characters from the animation and movie franchise.
The street art will feature Transformers characters painted on a row of containers by students from the One Academy Penang.
“For the first time, we will have the largest Transformers outdoor exhibit in Malaysia here with their backs to the sea as if they just arrived to save Penang and it will be accompanied by the Transformers street art,” Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said at the press conference this morning.
The Transformers exhibit featuring a 30-foot-tall Optimus Prime, Bumblebee and Chevrolet Camaro, will be officially launched on July 10 and will be open to the public for free for two months.
The Transformers street art will be open from July 19 to September 17.
The exhibits will open from 9am to midnight on weekends and public holidays and from noon to midnight on weekdays.
The Penang state government funded RM1.1 million for the event, which is supported by Penang Global Tourism and Penang Island City Council.
The One Academy Penang is the creative partner.
