I am shocked at the level of service and initiative of the service personnel in this resort.
From the start, the lack of "friendliness" is totally lacking. I had to haul my own luggage to my room, and there was a very steep slope up to my room.
Next to my horror, the room's sliding front door was faulty. It was difficult to slide open, and once opened, it was difficult to slide close, once closed it was difficult to lock, once locked, there was a huge gap in between the door and the wall.
Later i found the sliding plastic door, in the shower was also faulty, ditto the front sliding door.
The third nightmare i found was that i had to share my room with an infestation of ants/termites who were happily dropping their refuse on the bed.
When i complained to them, the management only half heartedly refuse to do anything as they were "fully" booked. So they sent a housekeeping guy to spray ridsect all over the room like it was the holocaust relived. I asked for a change of room but they didn't help us. I got so fed up, i didn't want to spoil my vacation and stopped complaining. Maybe this is their strategy.
The food wasn't nice even, the breakfast wasn't good, the steamboat dinner was the worst. The flower crabs they served wasn't fresh and it gave me a stomachache.
Seriously, there are so many more hotels in Langkawi, never never ever choose Mutiara Burau Bay. It is the worst place in Langkawi.

Nice place for honeymooners but not for Malaysian families. We were there during weekday (not school holidays). There were no other Malaysians and lots of Germans. During breakfast we were requested to sit at a table at the back. I'm not really a fussy person but I don't like it when Malaysians are treated differently from the Mat Sallehs. I'm sure this is not the first time you're hearing this. So this hotel does not give me the "feel good" thing.

stay 1 night only so cant give so much comment but i found that this is a good hotel to stay due to its concept like a challet with individual hut,,,,,very nice,,,and feel more privacy!!
But the only worst thing is the food really2 not tasty,,,,,,,not worth it compared the price..so expensive!!
Lastly i suggest the management should prepare umbrellas each off the hut..so customer can use it if going out to getting lunch or dinner....it bcoz off the distance frm the hut to the restaurant wz far,,,,,

I bumped into few troubles the minute i checked-in. The front desk personnel were impolite and called me by my first name without any "Encik" or "Mr". For a seond, I imagined myself queing at a government hospital/clinic.
When I reached my room (hut), the key broke in the slot while I tried to turn clock wise. The bell boy who broung my bags was helpful enough to ran to the front and return minuted latter and informed me that the hotel will be sending aomebody from the room service to fix it. I waited for 15 minutes and nobody came. I went to the front desk and this have to raise my voice to get a deserved services.
The restaurant, while another stroy. My wife and I were having a late snack when they told us that the restaurant is closing. I closely monitored the waiter and I didn't see him prompt the warning to foreign tourists. Maybe because I am a Malaysian.
Well, sometimes I wonder, as a foreign service officer, I am required to promote Malaysia as a tourist destination. Nonetheles, this poor and sub-standard service would seem the efforts by my colleagues and I in the foreing service would render useless.
Hope, the management would be more concerns to the level of services which are being given by the staffs.

We went to Mutiara Burau just before the deeparaya holiday ( 29/10/2005 – 02/11/2005) .They picked us up at the airport and our tour guide was a very nice and polite guy.
A beautiful place with a marvelous beach view. For those planning for relaxing holidays instead of shopping in Langkawi, this is a good place to choose!!!!
The staff are great , very helpful and polite. Worth another trip there and we fully recommended to those whom love so relaxing holiday.

The very first time I went to Mutiara Burau Bay was in 1992. It was a company trip and I was still single back then. I loved it so much so that I vowed to come back. The place was beautiful, clean, and I had so much fun.
So when I had a chance to take a vacation with my family in Langkawi, immediately Mutiara Burau Bay came to my mind. But I have to say that I was so disappointed with the hotel. Personally i feel that the hotel has not 'grown' positively. When we first check into the room, it was very smelly. My kids and I were sniffing around the room, trying to figure out where the bad smell was coming from. And we found it - the flower pot in the living room contained water that produced this terrible smell - as if somebody urinated on it !!!
The hotel compound was in a sad condition. Very dirty and messy with leaves from the big trees everywhere. Don't tell me they don't have gardeners to upkeep the place.
Overall, i was not very happy. The only consolation is that my kids really enjoyed the swimming pool.

Over the years Mutiara (Mutiara-TCB Hotel Management) has run many hotels to the ground in Malaysia. In recent years, the Kuala Lumpur Hilton changed name to Mutiara Kuala Lumpur, after couple years of bad management it is now managed by Crowne Plaza. Mutiara Penang will soon be run by an American hotel management group. The consistent failure of Mutiara is mainly deal to its bad management, lazy employees, poor (old) conditions of its properties and overpriced rates. I have visited most their properties and these reputations seem to be consistent in all of them.
However, unlike other Mutiara properties, Mutiara Burau Bay stuffs were very friendly and work very hard to please their guests. I wish the rest of Mutiara property managers take notice and learn from them.
Mutiara Burau Bay is very under stuffed. During my stay I observed a person worked three positions during a day, from server during breakfast to font desk in the afternoon and the bar at night. He told this is because of cut back.
During our stay the children club was closed down as well as many activities at the hotel unavailable. Each day we waited long time to have our room cleaned. There were just too few house-keeping personals taking care of the 150 rooms. The pool was very basic and small by any standard. Location is very remote from town. There is no bed in the rooms. You will be sleeping on mattresses on the floor (but my kids loved it). I was told all the rooms, except for locations, have the same configurations.
We enjoyed Mutiara Burau Bay very much but not for its services or comfort but the beach font location and abundant of wildlife on the properties (lizards, monkeys, squirrels, insects, fish, seals… and giant red ants). If you are looking for a camping trip with the family with full amenities on site and don’t have to bring any camping gears then this is the place for you. We enjoyed it very much, especially the kids, and will sure return again and again.
