Stay at this hotel before heading to G Hotel. Very nice and cozy. Quite enjoyable but the only thing is you must hang the" DO NOT DISTURB" because the staff may come in to check the pantry. Though is o.k but surprise!

Booked the hotel for 2 nights based on good reviews in Cuti.
The location is very good - conveniently near to many food outlets and not far from the famous Padang Kota food court, yet fronting the sea. Parking is aplenty. The studio room is very spacious... It had the sea + city view that may cost a premium in other hotels. The bathroom is also big, with jacuzzi, shower, and built-in wardrobe.
Breakfast spread is very good, even Japanese food is there.
Staffs there do put extra effort to impress you. My only grouse is that house keeping staffs did not come to clean the room at the promised time. This is important for families that have baby. House keeping staffs need to accommodate request to clean the room at a time convenient for the family and should not come to clean the room when the baby is sleeping.
After all being said, I think this hotel is among the best value in Penang.

Stayed there for i nite during the Raya holiday...I think it was the 2nd of raya. Plenty of rooms available... the rate was affordable too... We stayed at the 14th floor..Spacious room, clean bathroom very nice view of the ocean, the tv was small tho.. and the air-cond need to be upgraded. we can hear noises from all around our room...guess there's nothing that can be done about it..Staffs were all friendly. its just that, i tried to call the reception, but no one answers..Coffee Bean, starbucks and subway are all downstairs...very2 convenient... u can walk to the mall where everything u nid is there, not to mention the popular hawker centre just around the corner.. it was our first time staying there, i think i do prefer this compare to evergreen laurel hotel which is situated next to gurney hotel..hope to come back again..

We were shocked with the receptionist, Aima, with her rotten foul attitude. Though we were were polite & gentle to her, she was haughty & rude when she attended to us without remorse nor apologetic at all. For a moment, we felt we were mistreated by a racist. Overall we like this hotel for its good strategic location to great makan havens like Gurney Drive & Pulau Tikus & shopping at Gurney Plaza (1 min drive), great unobstructed view overlooking the sea & good breakfast. Rooms are spacious, clean & a sizeable jacuzzi too. A moderate fridge to keep our carton fruit juices, frozen ice pack & fruits. Kitchenette is big enough. However, the curtains are tattered & hard to pull, carpet & sofa sets need upgrading. The plumbing is a setback, makes extremely unbearable noise each time we turn on the taps & showers in the bathrooms. Noises from other units can be heard, top, left right centre & below. Towels are hard & old (overuse), need to buy new ones. In the Restaurant, Fiza warrants our high commendation. She's helpful, pleasant, efficient & pretty too. Breakfast spread is good. Congee quality & condiments are aplenty. Local specialty like koay teow soup, curry mee & nasi lemak are nice but fall short of the Penang hawker standards. Would be superb if only hotel serves what the lcoal stalls do. Disappointed with the fried rice, fried beehoon, fried koay teow. They totally don't represent Penang stuff. The Concierge staff esp Raj & a tall handsome malay chap is efficient & resourceful. Bell boys are helpful & friendly. Hotel Concourse is majestic when we walked in & lifts are fast. Unfortunately, we didn't enjoy our sea view because the Indonesian haze spoilt the view. Overall, the staff are gentle & friendly except for Aima, the rotten egg. I was also disappointed with June, the manageress, who treated us like criminals going for Police interrogation as she witnessed how Aima mistreated us, their customers. It's so sad that managers support the staff's wrongness rather than giving customers the benefit of doubt. Never in my whole life have we encountered such poor customer handling skills from managers in hotel around the world. Only happens in Gurney Hotel.

I've stayed here before during a dept event and brought my hubby with my baby. Now since she's already a tot, I chose to come here again as the hotel and facilities are really great. Great location for shopping & dining, great view day & night. The room is sooo big, and my tot just loves the jacuzzi bubble bath :) She also enjoys the kid's pool with slides, water sprays and waterfalls. We go for holidays nearly every month and this is the first hotel she really said "I like hotel!" and happy to go back to after sightseeing or shopping :D It's really a great place to bring your family in, except for the breakfast buffet. Not many choices for kids and the food a bit salty for our taste-buds.Overall great holiday except for the food

The room is good but the air condition really need a very good service or maintenance, because even 2 air condition were switch on, me and my girlfriend still feel warm at night, other than that everything is good, especially the breakfast improve a lot.

It's a family hotel and not recommended for couple. The food is good, the location is good, the view is good, service is ok.
However, the room is very very noisy. You can hear next door guest chatting and people showering, guest above you walking around the room, close door etc.
It's not a five star hotel but it's worth the price you pay.

3 days ago I made room booking with payment via Cuti.com and until today I still have not received any confirmation although the terms stated that the maximum it will take is 48 hours. The Cuti phone is never able to get through and I would suggest you all to think twice if you want to make booking using Cuti.com

Booking with CUTI again was hassle free. Excellent!
Me and hubby really satisfied with our 3D2N stay at The Gurney. The suite was spacious, the matress was very comfy, the view from our suite was really nice, clean bathroom with jacuzzi, iron & ironboard was provided. During our chk-in, they asked us in details type of room in our preference. Amazing! The manager on duty came by to our suite to make sure all in order, they even gave us a courtesy call to check wether everything is fine. The guard let us park in front of the enterance for chk-in and the bell boy came to bring our luggage in. Their staffs are friendly and courteous. Their hospitality was very oustanding. I dont have any complaint but just to let them know tt their breakfast is abit lack of variety, thats all. Above all, we love The Gurney to the max!

I stayed in studio apartment during my offsite meeting held in the hotel boardroom. The room is big with internet connection. But tv reception was not clear and I hate the twin beds which were placed closed to each other. Prefer one queen bed. Ironing was provided which is really good. The food in the coffee house was also okay. But no internet connection or WIFI in the boardroom though it stated in the quotation. The location is superb, near to almost everything.

Hotel up to standard. Recreation was gud, except that the pool's really cold!!! We were treated well by hotel staff, except for bell service. On our last day, v called them for a trolley, 3 TIMES!!!. They answered "Yes sir, on the way now". But they never turned up!! Bfast spread was so so only. Not very gud. Should improve.

first time stay was in December 2005, then April 2006 and recently May 2007. All 3 trips I can say... worth it. We love the pool area, spacious with lots of facilities. eventhough it is at level 7 but the infinity pools makes us feel we are just beside the sea and the white sand are perfect. 2 rooms suites are very big , studio suite are big too, food are good. their staff are very friendly and helpfull. I would say - perfect place for a family vacation.

Since our last stay in Feb-07, we were back again in June-07. Same as my previous comment, I gave high credit to the overall ambiance of the hotel. This time we stayed in a studio suite which has comfortable settings & high standards too! My boys enjoyed the recreation park very much too esp the water slides !!!
But unfortunately, there was still little disguise encountered. The coffee cups at the bar were not properly cleanse, there were traces of coffee stains on the white porcelain cups......yuck.....that was disgusting enough!! I just hope that the housekeeping would be reprimanded
for assurance of their jobs efficiency in the future & not to tarnish the good reputation of the hotel !!!

Overall, my family & I were very much satisfied with the hotel we stayed-in including the amenities, environment, facilities & etc. Exception was on the breakfast session. We were given 4pax complimentary & accordingly we went in with 4 adults & 2 children of only 4YEARS OLD! Without the courtesy of even informing us upon our arrival at the restaurant on the need to charge extra for the 2 children, we were billed an extra charges of RM22. We were obviously anger & annoyed for the fact that we should have been informed well ahead so that we have a choice to decide whether to proceed or not. The most unjust thing was that my kids do not have a very good appetite that morning. Only 1 of them had a sausage with both consumed some juices & that cost us a bomb of RM22! We definitely feel cheated. So I hope that the hotel would take this experience as a lesson to serve their future clients more responsibly & reasonably!

We checked in on a Sunday just to avoid the weekend crowd which proves to be a wise choice as the hotel was kinda quiet and peaceful. The lobby and coffee house's decoration are normal & nothing to shout about. We took the 2 room junior suite which proves to be very spacious and clean although it has some wear and tear. The jacuzzi was terrific as the view is overlooking the sea.Only qualm is the jacuzzi makes a lot of noise that we can hear the next suite's jacuzzi in our unit and to top it all off they use it at 3 in the morning.Breakfast is a very plain affair. The spread is simple but not that tasty.Perhaps the hotel can look into improving the buffet breakfast. Our main attraction is the hotel's recreation facilities. We enjoyed the swimming pool immensely and love the infinity concept swimming pool. The also have an equally large kids pool which has two different slides. We even get to play ping pong and checkers after swimming plus lifting up some weights in their open air gym.All in all it was a good trip to Penang which we really enjoy it because we had a good hotel to stay in.Will recommend it to family and friends.
